The Salary of the Caliph...

And so, Ramadan starts again. I hope you can feel the air around you get a little fresher, and thinner. A feeling of tranquility, and free from perturbation has descended. From tomorrow, as my mother like to say, a new life begins.

The point of this blog is to share a story with you; the story of Islam's first Caliph, Abu Bakr(R).

"After the death of our beloved Prophet(SA), Abu Bakr(R) was appointed as the rightful leader of the Muslims. Now, one day, Umar(R)- the second caliph of Islam- saw Abu Bakr(R) walking with a bunch of clothes strapped on his shoulder.Bewildered, he went forward and inquired about the purpose of the clothes. Abu Bakr(R) replied that he was going to the bazaar to sell these clothes and earn a living for his family.Grasping the critical situation Abu Bakr(R) was, Umar(R),along with the head of the treasury,Ubayda, it was decided that a salary should be fixed for the caliph. So that he does not have to do anything extra to earn money, and thus can give his full concentration in running the Muslims' affairs.

The resolved salary for him AND HIS FAMILY consisted of:four sheets of clothes each year, and food for him and his family for everyday.

Abu Bakr(R) readily accepted the salary, moreover, deposited EACH penny he had on himself at the treasury!

Now, his wife wanted to make some sweets for him but she didn't have enough sugar. So what she di was simple: she saved pinching amount of sugar from the ration, until she had enough for the sweets. And then she presented them to him with sheer delight. Now, the first reaction of any normal person would be to devour them, but Abu Bakr(R) was not just like any other man.He inquired WHERE did she get enough sugar for the sweets, because he knew the ration was too little to provide such luxury.Upon hearing the saving process, he concluded, that they MUST have been taking MORE THAN THAT WAS NECESSARY.Or else, how could his wife SAVE an amount? Thus, he went to the treasury and self reduced his ration.

At his deathbed, Abu Bakr(R) made his sons calculate the exact amount the treasury had spent on him.And then, he did,one of the most incredible thing. He ordered that all of his property are to be sold to repay the treasury to the penny."

People call us conservative, back dated, and there are some people who will even go as far as calling us extremist. Why? Because, the Quran calls for us to submit to the will of our Creator and act accordingly.Because, it calls for us to take actions which, simply put, are hard to take.Well, if being conservative means I am going along the direction that our beloved Prophet(S) and men like Abu Bakr(R) showed, then let it be known;I am happy being a conservative!

The O Level Experience.

It has been a long and grueling week so far. The mid of the exam is reached, and I use the first liberty I get to share my little ongoing experience with everyone.Don't make the mistake of thinking that the exam is over, as its not.I just have a little free time. For me the exam started on 10th May.Since then I have been only seeing pages and only pages infront of me. Lets start with the beginning. I stepped out of car to be greeted by the scene of a mass crowd, surprisingly consisting more of adults than students, frantically moving here and there. The astronomical number of adults made me confused of where I am actually. Then I learned that in exams, with every single candidate, at least two guardians are clamped together; this actually is a feature of O level examinations. I begin my entrance to the examination hall, with biology paper 1 as the first exam. I was checked and rechecked for God knows what by a serious looking guard. The contortion of his face suggests that he was look...

Anger and US.How to deal with the Red Monster.

" YOU CAN'T EVEN DO ONE SINGLE THING RIGHT! DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY HARDSHIPS I'VE HAD TO ENDURE TO BRING YOU UP?"....We are often hearing things along these lines from our parents.Everyday,at some point we are angry;sometimes, too angry. And that's when we make matter worse. If you have a sibling, like I do, then getting angry will become a habit. And if you are trying to tutor your sibling, then getting angry is simply inevitable.I try to control anger, and trust me, its really really hard. But if you can, the rewards are substantial! So here are a few tricks that you can use: 1.Take a 'timeout.' Although it may seem cliche, counting to 10 before reacting really can defuse your temper.Just do not react instantly, because everyone knows you will regret it seconds later. 2.Get some space. Take a break from the person you're angry with until your frustrations subside a bit. 3.Get some exercise. Think that the football is the person you are angry with and then b...

Enemy of Israel:Hamas or Peace?

There are limits to everything, and I think no one should be above the law.Not even small Nations which tries to muscle its way to the throne of power. The incidents that occurred, and are occurring in the Gaza strip and all over Palestine have provoked me to write this article.Don't get me wrong, I am not at all against Israel or Jews people. I respect them equally as everyone;see them in the same light as I see Muslims. It's just that some of their actions, which are unacceptably increasing nowadays, are just sheer inhumane and I would like to point them out.If I sound too harsh, then know ,its not directed to all the Israelis, but only to those who are responsible for the massacre of Palestinians and who hinder the Middle Eastern peace process. Where to begin? Let's start with one of the most heinous genocide carried out by the Israeli military in Gaza on 27 December 2007.They started with air strike, and then exacerbated the situation by ground strike. It left about 1400 ...
