International Space Station; The Giant Leap to manupulate the Universe.

The ISS is the worlds most expensive and colossal structure ever built by mankind.Strictly speaking, it is an artificial satellite orbiting the Earth. But its just not that. The ISS can mainly be considered as an outer space research facility and lab.Yes,a lab!The ISS is being currently being assembled in low earth orbit, staring from 1998 and will be completed by 2011(what's the use if the earth will be gone in 2012?!). As of May 2009 the station was 82.8% complete. The ISS represents a synthesis of several space station projects including the American Freedom, the Soviet/Russian Mir-2, the European Columbus and the Japanese Kibō. Budget issues led to the separate projects being merged into a single multi-national space station.Money can bring people together!

The ISS serves as a long-term research laboratory in space, with experiments in fields including biology, human biology, physics, astronomy and meteorology being carried out daily in the station's microgravity environment.Experiments are currently being done on specific objects and also the human crews aboard the giant bus.Crews flying long-term expeditions lasting several months conduct scientific experiments each day (approximately 160 man-hours a week)[30] across many fields, including human research (space medicine), life sciences, physical sciences and Earth observation.

A variety of large scale medical studies are being conducted aboard the ISS via the National Space and Biomedical Research Institute (NSBRI). Prominent among these is the Advanced Diagnostic Ultrasound in Microgravity study in which Astronauts (including former ISS Commanders Leroy Chiao and Gennady Padalka) perform ultrasound scans under the guidance of remote experts to diagnose and potentially treat hundreds of medical conditions in space. Usually, there is no physician onboard the International Space Station and diagnosis of medical conditions is challenging. This study's techniques are now being applied to cover professional and Olympic sports injuries as well as ultrasound scans performed by non-expert operators in populations such as medical and high school students.

The station provides each crew member with a quarter; it is about the size of the crew himself.A crewmember can sleep in them in a tethered sleeping bag, relax, listen to music, and use a laptop. It is perfectly possible to sleep floating freely through the station, but this is generally avoided because of the possibility of drifting through the station and bumping into sensitive equipment. Now this would be really cool!

Since the removal of the Habitation module from the station's design, the ISS has not featured a shower. Instead, crewmembers wash using a water jet and wet wipes, with soap dispensed from a toothpaste tube-like container. Crews are also provided with rinseless shampoo and edible toothpaste to save water. Waste is collected and transferred to the Water Recovery System, where it is recycled back into drinking water.

Upon completion, the ISS will be a man made marvel. It takes us one step further conquering the universe. It also exhibits how Nations can work together to build something as magnificent as the ISS!!

The Others

Just finished watching the fourth episode of season 4 and I noticed a couple of things. The way the episode portrayed the Others was extremely intriguing since the books do not divulge too much information about this icy mystique. In the episode, we first sense that the Others are about to come when we see the poured water freezing in front of Ghost. Whenever the Others appear, the temperature drops or they appear WHEN the temperatures drop. Research about them is scarce, as Samwell Tarly says in book five (small spoiler, sorry!). Whatever the case, they are correlated with a drop in temperatures. If you see water freezing instantly, you better get your dragon steel ready. We then see one of the Other taking the sacrificed baby on a horse to a mountain. This is where things get really interesting. The one riding the horse is the familiar Other. We have seen him before. He was the one leading the attack against the Night's Watch men on Fist of the First Men. But the second Othe...

Criss Angel Mindfreak: The Wizard of AXN

I'm pretty sure most of us is familiar with Criss Angel, and with good reasons. He is an American illusionist, magician, escapologist and stunt performer. Note that I wrote illusionist first, cause that's what Criss likes to think of himself. His show, Criss Angel Mindfreak, is broad casted on AXN on Wednesdays, at 16:30 GMT. Believe me, his illusions are mindblowing, and apparently impossible! But that's what Criss is best at;making the impossible seem normal! Allow me to give an example. Criss Angel has set himself the target of walking across Lake Mead, the largest lake in US. And he does succeed. He walks on water for about 200 yards. Now, remember people, its a lake.So it rules put any theories of plexiglass pillars. Moreover, Criss, at the end of his walk, start to sink under the water, eventually disappearing completely! The illusion is simply awesome, and many critics have failed to provide an explanation for this! One explanation says " He had completed construction...

Here's to Beethoven's 9th

This week was a LONG one. I didn't sleep a single day stress free, but heck, that's what college life is all about! Right now, I am way out of my comfort zone in my class. I'm taking Music in Stanley Kubrick's films, and I have no knowledge about music. I am learning how to describe music and all these new terms. Sometimes, it feels a bit overwhelming, with 2 tests, one presentation and 1 weekend project every week. But in the midst of all these chaos, I found one thing: Beethoven's 9th. I cannot describe the music maestro's 9th symphony and that's what is most beautiful about this masterpiece. Its everything and nothing at the same time. Its life made sound. Its energy made vibrations. Those crescendos takes you up high in the sky and let's you fly. It lets the emotion flow through your body smoothly. And the 4th movement fills you up with this inexplicable happiness. Oh! When they start the chorus, I feel something running through my body- something...
